Location Siachen Glacier
The Siachen Glacier is found in the eastern part of a mountain range called Karakoram, which is within the big Himalayan mountains. This is where a line separates India and Pakistan.
The glacier is really long, about 76 kilometers (which is about 47 miles). It’s the longest glacier in the Karakoram range and the second-longest among places on Earth that are not near the North or South Poles.
- During winter, lots of snow falls here – more than 1000 centimeters (which is about 35 feet) of snow, to be exact.
- And it gets super cold too, going as low as −50 °C (that’s −58 °F!). It’s a really freezing place!
Leh to Nubra valley to Siachen Base Camp Distance
If you’re heading from Leh to Siachen Base Camp, get ready for a journey of about 200 kilometers, which might take you around 8 to 10 hours to finish.
The road goes through a high-up place called Khardung La Pass and a really pretty area called Nubra Valley. It’s a long trip, but the views are worth it!

Siachen Glacier is found in the Karakoram range of the Northern Himalayas, close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
The highest spot is called Indira Col and is at 5753 meters (around 3600 meters above sea level). It’s very important for the Indian Army due to its borders with China and Pakistan, and it’s known as the Highest Battlefield.

Getting to Leh Airport – Day1
When you arrive in the morning, we’ll take you to your hotel. Take it easy today to get used to the high place of Leh, which is 11,500 feet (3500 meters) high. Later in the evening, you can check out the peaceful Shanti Stupa and Leh Market. You’ll stay at the hotel overnight.
Leh local sightseeing – Day2
Take a relaxed drive towards the west to see Sangam, where the Indus and Zanskar Rivers meet. Visit Magnetic Point, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Kali Mata (a temple in Spituk monastery), and the Hall of Fame. In the evening, check out Leh Palace and the local market. Spend the night at your hotel in Leh
Leh-Khardongla- Nubra Valley (125 km.) – Day3
After breakfast, we’ll set off for Nubra Valley. We’ll drive over a high place called Khardong-la (which is really tall at 18,380 feet). When we come down from there, we’ll reach Deskit and check into your hotel.
Later, we’ll visit a special place called Diskit Monastery. It’s the oldest and biggest Buddhist place in Nubra Valley. It’s part of the Gelugpa group.
Then, we’ll go to the Hundar sand dune. Here, you can have fun with a short camel ride on a special kind of camel with two humps (you can choose this if you want and pay for it directly). We’ll spend the night in Nubra Valley.
Nubra Valley ( Day excursion to Siachen Basde Camp – 180 Kms) – Day4
We’ll drive more to a place called Panamik Hot Spring, and then we’ll go on to Siachen Base Camp. There, we’ll see a special place called OP Baba Shrine and explore Siachen Base Camp and the nearby area. In the late afternoon, we’ll drive back to Sumur and stay overnight there.
Drive to Pangong via Shayok – Day5
After having breakfast, we’ll drive to Pangong through a place called Shyok. It will take around 5 to 6 hours to reach this amazing high-up lake, which is the longest one around here. We’ll check you in at your hotel or camp in Pangong, and you can enjoy the pretty evening by the lake. You’ll spend the night at Pangong Lake.
Pangong-Hemis / Thiksey-Leh (165 km) – Day6
After having breakfast, we’ll say goodbye to Pangong and go back the same way to Leh, crossing a high place called Chang-la. When we get to Karu, we’ll drive over the Indus River and go to a special place called Hemis Monastery, which is the biggest one in Ladakh. Then, we’ll drive to Leh, stopping on the way to see the pretty Thiksey monastery and Shey Palace. You’ll stay at the hotel overnight.
Going Back Home – Day7
In the early morning, we’ll take you to the airport so you can catch your flight back home.
Life and Challenges of Soldiers at Siachen
Life of Indian Soldiers on Siachen Glacier: Siachen Glacier is a place that separates parts of Asia. It keeps Pakistan and China apart in this area. There is a high part called Saltoro Ridge that helps stop Pakistan from connecting easily with China.
It’s like a guard post for India to watch over areas in Pakistan. Now, let’s look at how tough it is for soldiers who stay here to protect against Pakistan.
Being on the Siachen Glacier is tough because of the bad weather. The cold makes it hard for our bodies to work well. The bright sun can hurt our eyes, making it hard to see, and big snowstorms can make everything white and hard to tell where you are.
Soldiers who are out in the front, near where things can be dangerous, have to be careful about things like avalanches (lots of snow falling quickly), deep cracks in the ice, and tall walls of ice. They also can get sick from the high place and icy land.
